A pest control quote looks simple until you put two of them side by side. One company may price a single treatment, another a yearly plan, and the difference is not always visible on the first page. Before you pick a name, decide what the job is, then make each company describe their version of it in writing.

Local option: New Plan Care gives families in the St. Louis area in-home help so a parent can stay home: companionship, help with bathing and dressing, meals, and overnight care. Call (314) 405-0887.

Decide who the service is for

Write down whose home is being treated, who has a key, who will be there during visits, and who has the authority to approve a treatment. If your mom lives in the house, she should be part of the conversation, and you should both know who is the contact for the company. A clear contact person saves you from the family group text that starts with a bug and ends with an argument.

Check what is included

Ask each company to list what the price covers: the inspection, the treatment, any follow-up visits, and whether there is a callback between visits if the problem returns. Ask how many visits a year are part of the plan and what happens if you need an extra one. Two quotes that look similar may include very different follow-up service.

Ask about the treatment itself

Ask what products they plan to use, where they will be applied, and how long people and pets need to stay out of the area afterward. Ask for the product label or safety information sheet, and read it with your mom. If anyone in the home has a health concern, ask the company to talk through the approach with you before the first visit.

Verify the business

Ask for the company's Missouri license number and any proof of liability insurance. You can confirm licensing through the state agency that oversees pesticide applicators, and you can check the insurance certificate with the company's insurer. A company that hesitates on these simple requests is telling you something useful.

Read the renewal and cancellation terms

Many pest control agreements renew automatically and may require notice before you can cancel. Find the notice period, the cancellation fee if one exists, and whether the price can change at renewal. Put these terms in a short list next to the other quotes so the comparison is fair.

Compare the same job, side by side

  • The inspection and what it covers
  • How many visits are included, and the cost of extras
  • The callback rule between visits
  • The products and the re-entry instructions
  • The license number, insurance, and who the bill goes to
  • The renewal, price-change, and cancellation terms

When the comparison is done on the same list, the cheapest quote is often the one that leaves out the most. For more help finding local services and resources in the area, see Local help.
